What size is an Aadhaar card photo?
At the enrolment centre itself, your photo is captured live by the operator's biometric camera โ you don't bring one for that step. But the paper Aadhaar Enrolment/Update Form you fill out and submit needs a standard 35ร45 mm (3.5ร4.5 cm) passport-size photo pasted onto it, on a plain white background. That is the same size used for PAN card, voter ID, and most Indian government forms.
Can I update my Aadhaar photo online?
No. UIDAI only updates the photo on your Aadhaar in person at an Aadhaar Enrolment/Update Centre, because a fresh biometric capture (fingerprints and iris scan) is required alongside it. The myAadhaar portal (myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in) lets you update details like address, mobile number, and email online โ but not the photo. This tool prepares the printed 35ร45 mm photo you'll need for the update form; the actual photo on your Aadhaar is still taken at the centre.
Can I use my passport photo for my Aadhaar form?
Yes. The same 35ร45 mm passport-size photo โ white background, neutral expression, no glasses โ works for the Aadhaar Enrolment/Update Form, PAN card, and most other Indian document applications. One correctly formatted photo covers all of them.
Why does an Aadhaar form photo get rejected?
The most common reasons: wearing glasses (discouraged since 2018 due to iris-scan interference), a smiling or non-neutral expression, a colored or patterned background instead of plain white, poor lighting or blur, and a head covering that isn't for religious reasons. Our editor fixes the background, crop, and resolution automatically โ expression and glasses are still up to you.
