50×50mm (5×5 cm) is a square format used for Indonesian ID applications and various official documents. AI auto-centers your face, removes background, exports at exactly 50×50mm at 300 DPI. 100% browser, zero uploads.
How we keep your data private
Unlike other sites, we do not upload your photo to a server for processing.
- Local processing — AI models run directly in your browser using WebAssembly. No server-side code touches your photos.
- Zero data transfer — Your photo never leaves your device's memory. Nothing is sent, stored, or logged.
- Verify it yourself — Turn off your Wi-Fi after the page loads. The tool still works perfectly.

Absolutely. All processing happens entirely in your browser using local AI models. Your photo is never uploaded to any server. We have no backend, no database, and no way to see your photos. Your privacy is guaranteed by design — not just by policy.
We support passport, visa, and ID photos for 140+ countries including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, China, Japan, Germany, France, Brazil, Mexico, South Korea, Philippines, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, South Africa, Nigeria, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and many more — plus Schengen Area visas. Each template uses the official government specifications for dimensions, background color, and head size.
US passport photos must be 2x2 inches (51x51 mm) printed at 300 DPI, with a plain white or off-white background. Your head must be between 1 inch and 1 3/8 inches (25–35 mm) from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head. Eyes must be open and looking directly at the camera. Our US template handles all of this automatically.
UK passport photos must be 35x45 mm with a plain light grey or cream background. The face must be clearly visible, with the head height (crown to chin) between 29 mm and 34 mm. Glasses are not permitted. Our UK template applies the correct dimensions and background color automatically.
Yes. Many visa applications — including Schengen, US visa, UK visa, and others — require specific photo formats that differ from passport photos. We include dedicated visa templates for the most common applications. Select your destination country and the document type (passport or visa) to get the correct specifications.
Yes. Use a plain light-coloured wall as your background, stand in good natural light (facing a window works well), and ask someone to take the photo at eye level. Avoid harsh shadows. Our background removal tool will handle an imperfect background, and the crop tool will frame your head to the exact required size.
Wear everyday clothing — avoid white or very light tops as they can blend into the background. No uniforms unless required for your document type. Remove glasses (most countries now prohibit them). Keep your expression neutral with your mouth closed, and look directly at the camera.
Download the print layout (4x6, 5x7, or A4) and take it to a local photo shop, pharmacy, or print at home. When printing, select "Actual Size" or "100%" — do not scale to fit — so the photos come out at the exact dimensions. Most pharmacies and supermarkets offer photo printing for under $1.
We follow the official specifications published by each country's government — including exact dimensions, background color, head size ratio, and resolution (300 DPI). As long as your original photo has good lighting, a neutral expression, and correct pose, the output will comply with official requirements. We cannot guarantee acceptance if the original photo quality is poor.
When you upload a photo, our tool automatically detects your face using on-device AI and positions it to meet the head size requirements for your chosen document. For example, US passport photos require the head to occupy between 50–69% of the frame — the tool calculates this and sets the crop automatically. You can fine-tune it manually afterwards.
Our background removal uses an AI model (ISNet) that runs directly in your browser — no image is ever sent to a server. It detects the person and removes the background, then replaces it with the exact color required by your country (e.g. white for US passports, light grey for UK passports). You can fine-tune the result using the brightness and contrast controls.
You can download a single passport photo as a high-resolution PNG, or a print-ready layout (multiple photos on one sheet) as a JPEG at 300 DPI. The print layout is sized for standard photo paper: 4x6 inch, 5x7 inch, or A4.
Yes, the tool works on modern mobile browsers including Chrome and Safari on iOS and Android. You can upload a photo directly from your camera roll. Background removal may take slightly longer on older devices as it uses your device's GPU.
No. Everything runs in your browser — no app, no plugin, no extension required. Just open the site, upload your photo, and download the result.
Traditional services like Walgreens or CVS charge $10–$20 per photo session and require a trip to the store. Online services often charge $5–$15 and upload your photo to their servers. PassportPhotoSnap is completely free, processes everything locally in your browser for full privacy, and delivers the same print-ready result in seconds.
